WATCH: Kids Recreate the Recording of Van Halen's Debut Album in One Day

September 7, 2017

In just 7 months from its release, Van Halen’s 1978 self-titled debut album was certified platinum. And in just one day in 2017, the Los Rios Rock School students recorded the entire album in Sunset Sound’s Studio 1—the same room where the original album was recorded.

The team at Produce Like a Pro tapped into the Sunset Sound archives to research the exact setup of Studio 1 while Van Halen recorded that first album. In order to keep the scene as close to an exact replica as possible, the students and their instruments were placed in the same spots in the room as the band. They even used the same microphones as Van Halen on that original recording.

Not only do these kids absolutely nail “Runnin’ With the Devil” but one of the students—a 13-year-old girl—demolishes Eddie Van Halen’s “Eruption” solo. Watch it all go down below!
