Brian Wilson Urges Fans to Shut Down Beach Boys Show at Hunting Convention

A petition has 87,000 signatures

February 4, 2020

Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys haven’t been together much in recent years outside of a 50th anniversary tour, and now they’ve never been further apart.

The songwriting whiz is urging fans to sign a position to shut down the Mike Love-led band’s show on Wednesday. The concert is set to take place at the convention for Safari Club International.

“This organization supports trophy hunting, which Both Al (Jardine) and I are emphatically opposed to,” Wilson said on social media. “There’s nothing we can do personally to stop the show, so please join us in signing the petition.”

The petition, which is directed at Beach Boys manager Elliott Lott, has more than 87,000 signatures. Love issued a statement in response to the outcry.

“We look forward to a night of great music in Reno and, as always, support freedom of thought and expression as a fundamental tenet of our rights as Americans,” he said.

The Beach Boys recently announced dozens of tour dates for 2020, while Wilson continues to tour with his own band, which includes Jardine.
